Waiting for Merci to come home was agonizing. When day turned to night she began to worry, but she refused to call him again. She had tried ten times already and every time the voicemail came on she died a little on the inside. Why should he answer? Why would he want to? Noni had nothing to offer him. The longer she waited the more anxious she became, until finally she decided that she didn’t want to wait anymore. Trying to hold onto Merci should be the last thing on her mind. Noni’s life was in shambles and she needed to put the pieces back together. She couldn’t expect Merci or anyone else to do it for her. Noni packed up what little belongings she had at his place. She wasn’t ashamed of her tears now. This was something worth crying over. Noni was walking away from a great love; not because it wasn’t true, but because she would only hold up Merci’s life.
